Subject: Poser 10: Ends of Parameter Dial Names Cut Off

bjbrown ( ) posted Sat, 06 August 2022 at 2:30 PM · edited Mon, 25 November 2024 at 11:20 AM

I am still using my old Poser 10, just recently putting it on a new computer.  On the new computer, some of the parameter dial names have characters cut off at the end.  I'd appreciate help on fixing this.

That's pretty strange. Usually that only happens if the names are too long. Have you tried floating the palette by undocking it?

Sometimes I get palette misbehavior, I just reload the saved file and it fixes it. Refreshing the palette by switching to properties and then back to parameters might help too. I always have my parm palette floating however.

This is persistent among loading files/figures.  Resizing and moving the palette don't help.  It doesn't even seem to be affected by length of parameter-name, some short ones get cut off.  And then didn't get cut off at all before switching computers (difference between using Windows 10 and Windows 11 somehow?)

What surprises me is the difference in sizes between the labels and the inputs in your dialogbox
Even though this is a Poser11 dialog box, and if I remember correctly, the sizes and fonts remain coherent:

So that I wonder if you haven't ask Windows for bigger fonts, somewhere?

I did, and turning that off resolves the problem in Poser.  That leaves me a new problem general readability of everything on my computer.  Now I have to figure out something else to do with my display to make it usable.

I searched for ways to adjust font sizes in Poser 10, but couldn't find anything. I assume it is not possible?

Let me revise my update.

I had been using both Custom Scaling and Custom Text Size enlargement.

It was Custom Scaling that was causing the parameter name cutoff.  The Custom Text Size was not causing the problem.

We are in an era of Scaling Confusion. It is really bad for people with 4k monitors. I have to use windows graphic scaling of 150%. In addition because my eyes sight is not as good as it once was, I have to change the text bigger in the Handycap oops Ease of Access settings in windows to make the file explorer menus readable. I set that to 125%. In spite of all those setting, everything is too small in Poser, so there I have to set the UI scaling to 1.8, LOL.

On top of that, since I use Firefox, I have to set a permanent zoom of 80% so that webpages are not all like magnified, sort of like a children s book with big letters and big pictures. I like the old days where 12 point font was the same in every program. So I get cut off fonts on some menus on certain program, sometime the bottom half of the text is cut off.
