Thanks guys. That helps tons. Of course, I don't have any files anymore, so I'll be starting from scratch.

I'd like to make a suggestion Earl, whether you go with 2.7 or 2.79 (my recommendation), download a "zip" file version of Blender.

Blender isn't really "installed". You just set up a folder with everything that's contained in the "zip" file, and you're ready to go.

I don't know if this is true on a Linux or Mach computer.
