While that would be nice it does come with a security issue that I don't think any program maker wants to responsible for.  While it is easy to setup a hard link in business use cases it is not permitted for regular users because to does pose a security problem.  I am not sure I would want to be responsible when someone deleted a file from favorites and found out they removed from the original location also.

I understand but the use of hard link here, in the specific case of Poser is to have, for example your material settings, in one place, but they add a convenient way to retrieve them form another location: the favorites tab
