Yes if you run different versions in the same major release they will be using the same preferences. If the updates made any changes to preferences it possible they would upset each other. That's not normally a problem. If it gets angry you can re-install and choose to "Backup and Replace Preferences" when the question comes up. That will clear all old prefs for a fresh start.
