I once ALMOST got a job for being able to use Poser LOL but nothing came of it. It was a company that did 3d models and Viewpoint stuff.

It is never wrong if you can use ANY programm ... Most poser-addicted have a good knowledge in Texture-programms and really a lot in web-design. However - it is never wrong if you can 'programm' HTML, JavaScript or something else - this isn't quite necessary for Poser - but if you're making a website (and sooner or later it comes like this). I don't know in which direction the whole 3D-content runs - maybe later on it is possible to create websites with virtual avatars that are Posercharacters (well - Poser can export Flash - but somehow there has to be more ...). Maybe this Adobe Atmosphere ... Thinking 3D is also good for your brain - if you can texture a 3D-Model you should be able to texture banners, graphics or whatever ... Maybe - if you have the ProPack - you can learn using Phyton ... this will give you some (weak) programming knowledge ... and in my case ... it helps you improve your English (:o). I once could get a job using Poser - but ... what to say ... as Webdesigner/Programmer I got more money and so - well - then not Poser as main job - but I was glad to do so - so Poser stayed my hobby and I'll not burn out so fast ... but thinking what I can do when this would be my main focus ... naaaaaaah, better not ... lol

Hi Folks! I've begun to notice the standard P4 avatars (aka Dork and Posette) showing up frequently in illustrations for magazine and newspaper articles. I suspect that commercial artists are starting to use it as a part of their graphic toolboxes. We are probably several years away from Poser being regarded as an industry standard like Lightwave or 3D Studio Max. But it won't hurt to have it as part of your skill set now. Also, vronsky--have you thought about teaching opportunities in 3D design and animation? Peter (Dr Zik)

Think first about what useful specialized knowledge you have, and then think about how to use Poser (or graphics in general) in connection with that knowledge. For example: My present project involves heavy use of Poser, but I started the project before I'd even heard of Poser! I got the contract (writing an interactive "textbook") because of my specialized knowledge of a subject, and then began using Poser to breathe life into the images and animations.

Yes and No. While I personally have never seen a job ad requesting Poser artists specifically, clearly Poser work can be sold and is done so by many members of this group. Most appear to be adept in the use of numerous graphics applications though. While generally perceived as a limited, lower-end app, we are seeing that Poser has begun to be (quietly) used by professionals for quick figure creation, usually in conjunction with much higher-end programs. Frequent commercial sitings of Poser work (such as , IIRC, the recent French camera ad) are mentioned in these forums. So, while it has become a professional "tool", you may not get far with just one tool in your toolbelt. (btw - saw Default P3 Casual Fem appearing as part of a computer data display in an "Outer Limits" episode a few weeks ago and forgot to mention it here.)

Poser is one of my favorite tools to use when I'm doing a club poster or flyer. I do promotion for a local club and practically every ad I put out had a bit of poser in it. So it may not be the fact that you could use Poser that'll get you the job, but the fact that you can spice up your portfolio!

One of the guys I used to work with got a job with the Illinois State Police in part because of his knowledge of Poser. Part of his job is to use the Poser figures to model crime scenes.

i didn't get my webmaster/web design/graphic design/editor job because i knew how to use Poser, but it sure helped the day they wanted an advertisement and couldn't get the scene any other way than making it--without spending a mint on photography!

This is the landing spot for people coming to us from an advertisement. See the Michael? See the Michael admiring our charts! Done in Poser, Bryce, and Photoshop! They got so happy they enlarged this illustration into a huge banner for trade shows. Mike goes tech!
