I might be wrong but I believe this is the new thing: the PrincipledVolume node, really cool! This avoid having to find workarounds for a similar setup!@ChromeStar - I'm no expert, but my understanding is that it revolves around the proper addition of the PrincipledVolume shaders from latest Cycles/Blender.
