You're wrong! The reward points don't lose their cash value at any step in the transaction. They only lose value if you try to convert them to cash, and no store will ever do such thing. They won't give you cash for points. The points are their own currency. All retail stores have their points, miles, credit cards, etc... and they encourage you to use their currency, giving you a hefty discount, you think they lose money when they do this?

"Yeah, excuse me.. I'm getting the best deal ever on this product, that's unacceptable, I need to complain" - said no one ever...
