As for Poser 14, there isn't a definitive release date, but whenever that happens, there may be major advancements and changes. Right now, Poser 13 will still see occasional updates to fix or enhance existing features; maybe introduce some smaller advancements. I would suggest getting acquainted with Cycles and physically based rendering if you are interested in creating realistic-type images. Peruse the forums and engage in the discussions.
