Thanks to all for their suggestions and input.  I wish the Poser folks would release a program that: (1) works out of the box and installs simply without tweaks and fixes; (2) is backwards compatible with legacy content (like all the Python scripts that are sold on Renderosity); and, (3) does not require users to become software engineers or maintain multiple copies of the older versions of the software to use the software with content they've accumulated over the years.  I like producing 3d works, I like to content I've accumulated.  I hate having to dink around with software to make it work properly.
