Subject: Does anybody recall a short story consisting of two identical chapters ?

That sounds like a fascinating story concept! The structure you're describing—where the second chapter mirrors the first but with a completely different meaning—reminds me of "The Garden of Forking Paths" by Jorge Luis Borges. Borges often played with time, perception, and narrative structure in unexpected ways. However, if it's not from him, it could be another writer with a similar style, like Italo Calvino. You might also want to look into short stories with themes of alternate realities or perspectives, as that’s a common motif in magical realism

Yeah, it could well be a Borges story - the "somebody like that" in my original post was really intended to cover magic realism. But as I said before I haven't found the story I'm after.
