Eventually this will be a view through a broken window in a burned out building. It is a female warrior tending her wounds. I want to balance the weapons of war on the right with softer more feminine objects. I am not looking for underwear or fairie wings, but rather sentimental items she might bring along with her on a long campaign to remind her of family and friends. BUT I want to stay away from cliche type items like photos, lockets, stuffed animals, etc. Any suggestions? I suppose the items could also have been in the building before she arrived. Left by the previous occupants before evacuating. smerc

How about a small wooden keepsake box with perhaps a dried flower inside or a couple medium to large jewels. Or gold pieces, a ribbon.

Not that I am a lady, But If I may be so bold. I would suggest to you what i do for female characters. I'm used to role-playing AD&D so when I make a new character I try to flesh out the person, give them some personallity. If you try it, you may begin to see the things that this warrior would keep around her. it is good to ask to get a reference. But it's also good to imagine. BTW this is a good image so far. good camera angle and good prop use.

How about a letter, a lock of hair, an article of clothing with her loved ones scent? A personal item that belongs to her loved one.

There are a lot of things worse than dying, being afraid all the time would be one.

A small bag on a thong that can be worn around the neck, under her armour, to keep sentimental objects and even her money in. And all warriors rely on luck as much as skill, so some form of talisman or lucky charm.

SHes a warrior, so obviously she wont be carrying a big bag of stuff (impractical in fighting). How about a kerchief in her bra, given by a tearful sister? The pinky ring of her love? Dad, a big oldtime warrior himself, would have given her his favourite dagger, her kid brother a tiny wooden boat, made by himself to help her cross dangerous lakes. Its all in the mind... Maxx

a small journal with pressed flowers on a leather thong (in nature of tefillin; an small leather pouch filled with power items; vial or container with soil from home; a religious medal; a sash embroiderd with country/home insignia or coat of arms;

A little pair of sandles tied together by a leather string?

I agree with lalverson on this subject. I'm in fact a GM for a RP'ing game I created and I had this same problem with women (had to detail about 43 female characters). When I read your post I started thinking... Most of the stuff was already mentioned. Maybe her little brother or sister drew something on her shield? Or maybe a necklace she got from her mom when she died, perhaps her reasoning to become a warrior to avenge her mom's death? How bout her boyfriend's engagement ring? Just some suggestions? It will take alot of feminine stuff to balance the arsenal she has... :) BTW: I cant wait to see this finished!

Oh, sorry about the re-post. I got Poser to create models of my characters for my RPG. Hence the reason why I have a 20Gig HD dedicated to poser.

Thanks for all the suggestions. I think I will place a square of flowery cloth laid out on the rock that will fold around a personnel item or two. The cloth will be dirty from her long travels and tied with a leather thong, that replaced a ribbon, lost long ago. Placed upon the cloth will be a small journal open to a page with small neat script. A small container of ink with birds painted on the side (almost empty). And a two quills. The trick is to make the items small but obvious from adistance. Thanks for the inspiration smerc

Wounds? I don't see any wounds . . .

Just enjoying the Vue. :0)

smerc ( ) posted Sun, 04 November 2001 at 11:48 AM

from a lower camera angle you can see a wound on her right side - note the hole in the shield. The wrap around her chest is actually bandages. Plus there will be a nasty sticky wound on her right leg that she is in the process of stitching up. I have not added that to the texture map yet, I envision it needing a lot of post work, smerc

I have a hard time thinking of a female warrior as "soft and feminine." If she goes to war, I don't know that she would have feminine keepsakes with her. Just my observation as a woman. Melanie

Silvermermaid ( ) posted Sun, 04 November 2001 at 1:40 PM

I don't know about that. I think a woman warrior can be feminine. But I guess its all up to a person's observation. Hey, maybe she does it on her off days, or a way to fool her adversary. Just when they think she is weak, she whips out her sword and gets them...LOL Anyway, I like the suggestions above, maybe a scroll, a leather hair tie, a metal necklace with lots of wear, a small ornate cup with water in it (so she can clean herself up). Maybe some metal vials/jars with baubles on top. Even a little cloth horse or animal from her childhood (not a stuff animal). But one made out of old cloth or something. A old piece of linen or sash to drape over a rock, then put some of her stuff on it... I agree I can't wait to see this finished!

I've role-played for 20 years in various fantasy worlds and am a GM. The 5th party is just starting in my Viking world... for which I've created dozens of females and well as males. Suggested items (don't leave home without them!): 1)scarf or kerchief. Even Bilbo needed one. Too darned handy for too many things. 2)personal kit. Tooth-scrubber (stick with mashed end or embroidered cloth are both "period"). sewing kit. comb. small knife for trimming nails, quills, drilling holes in leather. 3)mirror (even if it is polished metal). useful for signaling, seeing if that body is really dead, and tending the wounds you can't see... as well as removing parsley from the teeth. 4)food and water. maybe alcoholic stuff (also useful for tending wounds). a bottle or two makes sense. 5)book or mapcase, ink, quills (useful for map-making, etc.) 6)small pouch for money or hack silver or trade stuff. 7)amulet/charm/religious symbol on her person.
