I have done a few animations using Poser. They are basically very short but do include music and some voiceovers. There are other programs that you can do character animation with.
Hash Animation Master 2001
Cinema 4D
Lightwave
3D Studio Max
Maya
Softimage
Etc.
The problem comes in the fact that most of these programs cost several thousand dollars (or more). The exception is Hash Animation Master at $299.00. Another problem is that these programs also require you to be very proficient at modeling. They have very few ready made characters compared to Poser.
With that said, IMHO, Poser is the best. It has fairly good animation tools (being IK and the animation pallete). It is easier to learn than some of the other programs listed above. It has tons of ready made characters and is only about $220.00. I have of course spent additional money for characters and props (Mike and Vicky etc.). If you factor in the amount of time (and money) it would take to create these types of characters and props Poser is still the biggest bang for the buck! :)
As far as learning how to animate with Poser, Practice, Practice, Practice! I myself am still learning. It may take another year or so before I truly become good at it.
Anyway before I ramble on to much here is the link to my site.

Click "skip intro" if you do not want to wait for the Flash Teaser and then click "animations" on the side nav to see the movies.
All the best,
