Subject: How much time did your longest rendering take?

Ack.

Now, Bryce does OK work... it is a full on Ray tracer so some things do look really good. But it is far from a sophisticated rendering engine. Obviously with the full ray tracing you do get some of the features like caustics and DOF (blurry) reflections, but there are some nice cheats that can go into the renderer to cut those times down to something useful.

So the question is... for what possible reason could it take that long to do what are comparatively simple renders? I mean, is it just completely without optimization?

I am not trying to come down on the folks who use it - some of the work is amazing... I am just wondering how it is that it has survived in the marketplace.

This is a comment more to the people who make Bryce (Corel?)...

My admiration for those who use Bryce just went way up. I wonder if the same scenes would be much faster in Truespace?
