Subject: DAZ Millenium Boys

Well, they are up and being offered. I dunno,, what do you folks think? They aren't stand alone models at all, but are truly based on the Mil girls. They don['t seem to be anything that couldn't have been achieved without them with just the mil girls. Anyone have them yet? What do you think??

Well, as Ive written elsewhere, Im not terribly impressed. Had they been based on Michael (as Mikey was), the look would probably have been a lot better. But these... well, I doubt Ill be purchasing them.

Don ( ) posted Sun, 25 November 2001 at 3:20 PM

I might try just getting the boy's clothes pack and some new Mike hair and with some dialing and styling... see what kind of boys I get. As for the boys being based on the girls... Remember, all zygotes start out as girls, so I suppose DAZ was just imitating nature.

leather-guy ( ) posted Sun, 25 November 2001 at 4:44 PM

Well one advantage of basing on the boys on Vic is it'll make finding hairless textures easier. I can't envision the lack of genitalia being a problem, unless "old swimmin hole"-type renders become popular G. I got both the boys & Mikey, as I like a lot of variety in my group scenes. I only wish someone would come out with a really good assortment of children's period clothes for ANY of the children figures. Anything from 1900 knickerbockers & pinafores thru midieval peasants & nobles to ancient Rome, and anything in between (especially like to find beggars rags).

3-DArena ( ) posted Sun, 25 November 2001 at 5:16 PM

oooh peasant clothes, that would be perfect.

Um, I believe in protecting children from abuse, exploitation, etc. However, the idea of a boy without genitals is frightening and abnormal. Scratch one more product from my wish list.

I bought them and I love them. I think they're adorable. Here's an example of a render I did with the Preteen boy and girl.

Just as an aside, I don't know why anyone needs to be doing images of undressed children. So the genitalia issue is pointless. My opinion. Melanie

3-DArena ( ) posted Sun, 25 November 2001 at 8:44 PM

I agree that genitalia in the kids really isn't an issue to me. What I'm interested in is how different the characters are... can the look be achieved with the mil girls in a reasonable amount of time or is it worth the $$ to get the boys...

The point here is that art sometimes involves nude people. And it's only natural for people to have all their parts.

Lyrra ( ) posted Sun, 25 November 2001 at 10:32 PM

I think I like Mikey better than the DAZ boys. But I got them anyway (on sale, ya know?) since I was getting the milgirls. Either are better then the Poser Wonder Ugly Twins. As far as the genitals go you should just do like I do for any render, even with Mike. Turn 'em off and use Lee Moons nifty snapon set instead. (yes - a snap on Penis and Testicle set) You get a LOT more control that way. Most of the time you'll be using the milboy clothed anyway. And any clothes for the milgirls fit the milboys anyhoo. Just my .o2 Lyrra

ronknights ( ) posted Mon, 26 November 2001 at 1:07 AM

I hate to say it, but part of my reaction is just one that says "I know how people are built, and this doesn't sound natural to me." Most of the time, I leave genitals off when using any male character. That's just because for some reason someone hasn't figured how to make Poser males "keep it in their pants." But at least I know the men have their "parts!" And they are men, not women.

gryffnn ( ) posted Mon, 26 November 2001 at 6:22 AM

The MilBoys are the MilGirls with more morphs - three more for preschool and 22 new for preteen. I've used low settings of the "boy" heads, for example, to add some variety to girl characters. Worth the (sale) price to have them together.

gryffnn ( ) posted Mon, 26 November 2001 at 6:23 AM

Oops, that count is the head morphs only.

VirtualSite ( ) posted Mon, 26 November 2001 at 10:06 AM

Lyrra: And any clothes for the milgirls fit the milboys anyhoo Oh no! Are we creating a Poser generation of incipient drag queens?????

Hello, This information is available on the Millennium Boys product page but I thought I would post it here as well. We appreciate the feedback that is given by you, community members and DAZ customers. We value your recommendations and suggestions and implement them whenever possible. In fact, we were close to releasing the Millennium Boys when a thread was brought to our attention about suggestions and changes that the community wanted to see. We delayed their release by several weeks so that we could develop the necessary alterations that the community pointed out to us. I am glad people noticed a difference between the current Millennium Boys and the original images posted. Several alterations were made between the girls and the boys such as, face, body muscle type, morph targets, morphs for a more masculine face and physic. Although boys and girls at young age do not vary greatly, there are subtle differences that DAZ has tried to make apparent in the Millennium children models. Many have questioned why we used the Victoria mesh to create the Millennium Boys. We tried to make the best decision for DAZ customers. This was taken very seriously and thoughtfully. Following are some of the reasons we chose to use the Victoria mesh rather than using the Michael mesh or creating a completely new mesh. * DAZ decided to use an existing mesh, so that it would be compatible with your Millennium Girls products. Many of these items are probably already in your libraries, and by creating a new character that is compatible with your previous purchases; we hoped to give you more use and value from your DAZ products. *There is gender-neutral clothing for children and we wanted to allow the clothing to be compatible for both the Millennium Girls and the Millennium Boys. *Hairstyles can be compatible for both the boys and girls. (The Butch haircut shown on the Millennium Boys product page will be releases later this week.) *Compatibility of Morph Targets. *By using the same mesh it allowed DAZ to keep production develop costs lower allowing us to pass the savings on. We realize there were several reasons to develop the Millennium boys differently. However, this is the option we felt would be best for everyone involved. This and more information will be available on the Millennium Boys product page soon for your convenience. Thanks again for your feedback and great support. If you would like to offer more feedback we are always open to new and different perspectives. Please email feedback@daz3d.com with any suggestions. Thanks, AnneMarie White DAZ Productions www.daz3d.com

Believe me I appreciate all you have done, especially when you responded to our concerns. That is the mark of a great company that wants to keep our business.

I undewrstand the reasons for the mil boys being based on the girls/victoria. I am just curiious as to how vastly different the morphing is, since we had seen some pretty convincing boys from morphing the girls. I think that I shall have to get them for myself... hmmm.. maybe I should put out a request for someone with them to do our review of them as I am swamped and nikita is looking like her comp will be out of commission...... Any takers BG

I love the little fellas! I didn't think I would, but after I bought them and put a better hairstyle on them, I've really taken to them. Note my image above. The boy has a different face from the girl with a mischievous dimple in the chin and a slightly wider mouth. Also, in the pre-teen, there's a slight hint of an adam's apple on the neck. I think they're adorable, and I do now see a difference from the girls. I'm glad I got them and I'm having a great time with them. Melanie

For me the problem is the millenum boy cannot use the Michael texture which is a big problem. I did many teens with Mikey but with this millenum boy no texture is available. See Malcom one of the four boys we can build with Mikey.

And this one. The boy on the left side is Millenum white boy.

melanie ( ) posted Tue, 27 November 2001 at 8:03 AM

Nitreug, the problem with using Mike textures on the boys is that the boys are aged about 4 and about 12. Most of the Michael textures have facial characteristics, such as wrinkles or beard shadow, which the boys wouldn't have. They need their own textures to give them a smooth skinned child-like complexion. A mature man's skin won't work on a little boy. However, if you really like a certain texture, you could adapt it to a Vicki template in Photoshop or PSP. Melanie

melanie ( ) posted Tue, 27 November 2001 at 8:05 AM

Oh, by the way, I like your Mikey adaptation, he has real character there, however, he looks more like about 16 or 17 years old, whereas the Millennium boys are both children under 13, so that's the difference. I've made regular old Michael look like a 16 year old boy, just by dialing the morphs and using a very smooth texture, as well as a youthful hairstyle. Melanie

I haven't perfected the art of making good textures for Mikey yet. But spending just a few minutes in photoshop can do the trick. This is an example of the Edo texture by Stefyzz. I removed the facial hair an smoothed the texture a bit. I think this guy could pass for 13.

And for the browner persuasion, James by Joelegecko was also modified using photoshop.

...Add a little peach-fuzz and voila', a 15-17 year old
