ummm you might try the Mat maker in the store. I beta tested it and know it works well. I've also tried the MKTools Mat maker script. It requires you to have Poser Pro Pak. With it you really don't need to know much :). Leather-guy is right the tutorial at poserarcana is the best I've seen.
