I dont think you need to run them through UV. I work on a Mac and have never had any problems importing Poser figures by this means. The PC architecture may be different in this respect, but its worth a try. UV is good only IMVHO if you want to somehow rearrange the mapping structure or if you need to create a template, but I rarely use it for anything beyond that.
