I don,t think the fire has been done with a "Photoshop" plug-in.I,m pretty sure it,s been done post production using a Bryce, volumetric texture plug-in, which is available for free from Claygraphics site at the above link. If you do a search on "fire" in the Bryce forum here at Renderosity , also check out the links to the "Fire & Ice" tutorials which cover how to use the texture. If you do checkout the Claygraphics link hit the back button & check out Clays amazing space pictures in the Gallery.They are very similar to what you are after & it may be that there are some tutorials on that as well here in the Bryce forums.
