Well, I'm not Varian, but I'm pretty sure that what he uses for most of those teriffic plants is a program called Plant Studio, which can be found at the link above. However, never underestimate the power of using alternate textures and transmaps on those Solid Growth trees/plants in Vue. Between the several basic shapes that Vue has with Solid Growth, and applying alternate materials to them, there really isn't much that can't be done. :)
