Just a rendition of a night in the burbs on a summer night, I know summer, we just got to winter. The furniture is not ours, but they are great, got them from 3D cafe in the free section...wonderful aren't they. Have a good one. Share PS: had some trouble with that darn grass again, can't seem to get this right...any suggestions?

Nice picture, Sharen. :) (BTW, crickets "chirp"; the males do...they do so by rubbing their hind legs against their wings. it's supposed to attract female cricketesses... I guess they're easily impressed :) As for the grass, the grass material in Vue isn't very good, IMHO, since it's just a 2D mat with some bumps. It's better as a whole to make a whole lot of grass models from the "Patch of Grass" veggie in the Plants library. If you take the time just once to create a whoile lot of them, then group them together, you can save the whole mess as a .VOB, and load a whole field of grass at once, from your Objects library. At least that's what I do when I need mucho grasso...

wow, what a great idea, I am going to do that now, really, I have been messing with the grass forever. Okay, should I put them on a terrain or just one bunch of grass? Sharen

Sharen, This is a great scene. So neat the way the objects look like they're really "inside" John

SAMS3D ( ) posted Sat, 22 December 2001 at 4:50 PM

actually they are inside, I used our split walls and created a room to look into. Added those great free 3d models from 3d cafe and of course added our new deck and away we go, need to go work on my grass. Sharen

Fantastic picture Sharen! You did a marvellous job on it. Not exactly sure what you mean by 'split walls'? Can you explain how you do that? Right on! :) Irene

SAMS3D ( ) posted Sat, 22 December 2001 at 6:05 PM

I used our models, split walls, picked 4 walls to use, then added a ceiling and a floor, sort of made a box and then put the girl and her dog inside the box, added some furniture inside the box, hung a picture on one of the walls, and then added the deck to the outside of the wall. All our Split Walls models that we sell have inside and outside features, so you don't have to do too much texturing to them. That is what I mean. Sharen

LOL @ the easily impressed female crickets. ;D This is a very cool scene, Sharen, shows off the deck nicely, too! Another thing you can do with the grass is use an image map. I've got some on my site that you could play with (at the link) Using them on a ground plane is fine; you can also use the same image in the bump channel to give it some shape. One other tip I'd offer is when using stuffed furniture like these (great models, btw! I'm going to have to visit 3D Cafe again soon!), raise the couch, chair above the floor of the room just a smidge. Just high enough that the dog's favorite ball is sure to roll under there and get stuck. *grin* This type of furniture is usually seated on little feet that can't really be seen from normal levels, but elevates the item off the floor. And one more comment - your kid and dog look very natural, as usual. Great job! :) * Happy Holidays! *

tis a lovely render Sharen... reminds me of a few twilight houres in midst summer. the churruping of the crickets, the humming whine of the mosquitoes 8 ) the whole thing looks really good... thank you very much 8 ) hrmmm... have you thought about blueing the lights for a moonlight appearance? take care love

tradivoro ( ) posted Sun, 23 December 2001 at 3:15 AM

Hey, that looks great... Love the restful feeling of it... :)

SAMS3D ( ) posted Sun, 23 December 2001 at 3:52 AM

Wizzard I never thought of blueing the lights, excellent idea. I was wondering how I would get it to look like nightfall. Duh.....now, Varian, how would I go about using this in the bump channel, the image I mean. I got the applying it to a ground plane and I actually tried that with another set of images for the ground but it looked blah. Sharen

Sharen, okay the Bump channel thing is a little hidden, but once it's found, easy to remember where it is. Open the image map material in the editor, move to the Bump channel. Right-click the function image and select Edit Function. On the new screen, select Mapped Values and the screen will change. The Picture button will now be accessible toward the bottom. Click the Picture button and load the image for the bump. :) * Happy Holidays! *
