i recently created my first photoshop action - to make christmas tree text - however im unable to save it as my actions menu has disappeared - when i press the button i get nothing - its only the actions menu that has disappeared. re-installation od PS did not help - the version is 6.1 - does anyone know how to retrieve it?

Not 100% sure on this one but I can think of a couple of possibles to check. The actions menu normaly sits alongside,Layers,Channels ect & they show & hide together,but they can be seperated.Once you seperate them(Just click on the top name tag & drag away ) they act independantly of each other. On the off chance your action menu has been "ripped off",check the drop down windows menu for show/hide actions. If it still shows "hide actions" then check the bottom of your screen to see if you have accidently minimized it and its hiding in your status bar.

thank you for your reply - after trying your ideas - i am still left with no menu - the palette is there but i cant load - save or do anything from the menu - many thanks n e way dlm =)

Sounds like you may have created the new actions in a SUB folder of the actions folder in Photoshop causing Photoshop confusion and displaying nothing. Try taking those new actions totally out of Photoshop directory. Reboot and restart Photoshop. If this solves the problem then click on the arrow head to choose the Load Actions command from the actions palette menu. You can load actions from any folder on computer and it will append to default actions.

The attached link is the photoshop action exchange.They have a number of tutorials that might be worth a look at that may/may not be of assistance. You say the palette is there but you can,t do anything with it!!!! Probably a stupid question but when you have the palette up you are LEFT clicking on the top right arrow & not RIGHT clicking to get up the menu options. Prehaps you could try going to the upper Windows drop down menu & clicking on the bottom one "reset palette locations" which should give you history & actions on a seperate box and left clicking again.If you get the option to load palettes,you could try reloading the default palettes from the goodies folder. Running out of options. Good luck DLM

ty once again - ill try the action exchange - yes im left clicking - i tried the reset palette locazations to no avail - i tied reinstalling PS - but that didnt help, i suspect a corrupt dll file - but i dont know which it would be - last step would be to reinstall windows

Every once and a while Photoshop starts acting weird. 90% of the time it can be attributed to one simple thing ... Photoshop Prefs file has become corrupt for some reason or another. Luckily, the repair job is simple. (Or so they say).

Delete the file called "Adobe Photoshop 6 Prefs". (The location depends on your OS.)

Better than trying to reinstall Windows ... YUCK!!! Reinstall of windows would not correct this type of problem.

this sounded like the answer to my problem - until I deleted the prefs file - (C:WindowsApplication DataAdobePhotoshop6.0Adobe Photoshop 6 SettingsAdobe Photoshop 6 Prefs.psp) this only served to change my units settings and release my additional filters folder - but the idea was sound and im sure this will work for most other ps problems, looking more like a complete OS reinstall everyday - thank you again dreamer - I appreciate your efforts in fnding this PS resource =)
