I haven't been to Canada in over twenty years...so I can't say what the situation is like there now...but I can say what the situation is like here in Dallas, Texas. I've been a computer repair technician for over 15 years. I worked at a major computer retail outlet for seven. Because sales dropped so much, I was given a two hour notice of being laid off. No severance, nadda. Took me two and a half months to find a job and making 125 dollars a week less than what I was making. Didn't have a choice, I had to take the job or lose the meager unemployment benefits entirely for "denying work opportunity". The IT industry is overstocked with the latest onslaught of technical training school graduates hitting the pavement and passing out resumes. What used to be a lucrative field of expertise has turned into a rediculous tirade of despair where big companies can get highly skilled employees for pennies on the dollar instead of paying what they're worth. At the place I got laid off from, I made the company enough money in billable labor to not only pay MY salary but the salary of two others, yet, they chose to keep the salespeople who weren't doing THEIR job properly and throw the ppl who WERE being profitable out in the street.
