Well, that's cool...sort of. Vue's material editor WILL slow down, as you get more objects in you scene, with more complex materials. I'm hoping they speed it up one day. You said you were following a trans tut here. Just FYI, you can invert the trans map either by loading the "Invert" filter, or by clicking the little square to the above-right next to the preview in the trans function editor window. They just added that Invert button in Vue 4, and it doesn't seem to matter which way you do it now.
