Hello, does anyone know a free software to convert *.max-Files to *.3ds, *.lwo, *.dfx or *.obj Files? I have here some good *.max-models, but Bryce is not able to read *.max Technician

The only programs I know of that will read and convert .Max scene files are 3DExploration by RightHemisphere and Max itself. Max can export objects in the scene file and 3DExploration will convert the scene but without the lighting and plugin information.

I downloaded the trial version of 3DExploration from www.righthemisphere.com I have seen that the import of max/3ds-files will not work without 3dStudioMAX. Exists a trial version from 3dStudioMAX? Technician

What exactly are you trying to do , is it a max scene that youre trying to convert to 3ds ? Please explain further :o) I find 3d exploration does all my modelling needs , from game models to 3ds , it does it all ! And i know there is a free trial of G-max but i think that more game orientated , maybe worth a try though ? Good luck ESP

Well I have the 3DMax plugin in 3DExploration and don't have Max so I guess it's a demo thing. As far as GMax goes it will only export out as Quake3 meshes, that will change soon. Try asking in the Max Forum here as some of those guys have no problem converting thngs to help people out. G'luck!

I know that the 3D conversion program "Polytrans" will convert .max files, but only if you already have 3D Studio Max, even if you have the purchased version of Polytrans. `Least that's the way it used to be. Yeah, I wish there was a better way to extract a .3ds or whatever out of .max files, there are some pretty cool (free) downloads out there.

@Quikp51 >Well I have the 3DMax plugin in 3DExploration and don't >have Max so I guess it's a demo thing were do you get the 3dmax plugin from? Is it also available free?

It installed itself, and I don't have Max. I don't know of any plugins that you can install manually. If you need some meshes extracted from the .Max scene files let me know I maybe able to help.

Oh and I am on dialup for another month or so hopefully the files aren't to large. Once I get my dsl I can dl and ul large files without a problem.
