V, you are dead on correct, that is exactly the correct answer. It has to do with the way conforming items are joined and the ranges they have. Jim Burton is/was working on adding something like a third leg to counteract this effect but as far as I know he is still working on it. the only way currently to fix this is to use magnates and make a MT, or to do post work.
