Here's the cat I've been working on (without the rest of the stuff in the image that I still have to make). I will need to work some more on the texture, but I think the cat is shaping up. What do you think? Do I need to change anything? Thanks! Sue

Little_Dragon ( ) posted Sat, 16 February 2002 at 5:11 PM

I think it looks like a cat, which is saying a lot, considering what Poser gives us to work with. Good job!

Thank you! :)

That's a very nice cat. Really looks like one. I agree with Little Dragon. The animals that poser gives aren't very good.It would be nice to have a few more morphs! Joan

Very nice s

VirtualSite ( ) posted Sat, 16 February 2002 at 6:19 PM

Really nice. I think the only thing I would look at some more is the area around the pupil of the eye -- rather than one big colour, they have a wider range of tones there. But the fur looks great!

Sue88 ( ) posted Sat, 16 February 2002 at 6:19 PM

Thank you, everybody, I really appreciate your kind comments. :) I agree, it would be nice to have more morphs for the animals!

Sue88 ( ) posted Sat, 16 February 2002 at 6:27 PM

VirtualSite, Yes, I tried to make the eyes have different tones in them (I actually used a photo of a cat's eyes), but when I put them on the Poser cat, they didn't show. Maybe because the texture is mapped on the eyeball and only part of it is visible between the eyelids? I'll have to experiment more with that. :)

I've heard of something called the 9Lives Cat, which is supposed to be a vast improvement on the original. Anyone know where that might be found?

It's probably the "Cat o' 9Lives" by Capsces Digital Ink. See link. It's actually 34 morphs which are very nice and you can turn the cat into other animals, too, with them. (Fox, rabbit or raccoon.)

Cool! Many thanks.

Sue88 ( ) posted Sat, 16 February 2002 at 7:44 PM

You're very welcome. (I actually got the link from Little Dragon myself, thank you, Little Dragon. :) I looked at the eye question, and yes, I have to make sure that the middle of the eye texture has the different colorations, then it will really look much better. Thank you, VirtualSite!

What a cute kitty. I think he should have little white tips on his paws, but he looks great, and I love the pose. Melanie

Sue88 ( ) posted Sat, 16 February 2002 at 9:03 PM

Thanks, Melanie. :) Yes, that's one thing I still want to do with the texture. I have worked on it, but it's not easy because of how the texture is wrapped and stretched on the cat - it's hard to line it up on all sides. But I will keep trying. :)

Lyrra ( ) posted Sat, 16 February 2002 at 10:38 PM

I tried an experiment about a week ago to improve the cats eyes - look for the thread called "building a better cat". Basically I made the eyematerial invisible and used spheres to replace them. A clear shiny outer sphere, and an inner sphere mapped with an eyeball texture. I run through the whole procedure in that thread. Aside from the eyes, the cat looks great - nice texture. :) Lyrra

Must have missed that thread, will visit it, thanks Lyrra. I usually postwork my cats eyes to get the right effect, your way should be better.

Thank you everybody for your kind comments and suggestions; they have been very helpful. I have done more work on the eyes and managed to give white socks to the kitty. I just need to make a few more things and hopefully I'll be able to post the whole image in the Gallery soon. :) cinnamon, 22 cats? Wow!

I just want to let you know that I'm finally done with the cat picture and I've posted it in the gallery. Thank you very much for all your help and suggestions! :)

Great picture, Sue, I love the texture you've done. It reminds me of a kitty I used to have. Melanie

Sue88 ( ) posted Thu, 21 February 2002 at 8:05 PM

Thank you, Melanie. :) I'll probably put up the texture as a freebie sometime, I just have to get organized first! :) Sue
