What follows is an email that I sent to support@LIPSinc.com today concerning their Mimic product: I just received your product from JourneyEd, an education software reseller. I have an Apple Macintosh iBook and run version 4 of Connectix's Virtual PC with Windows 98. I have both a registered copy of Poser 4 for Windows and Macintosh. After I installed Mimic under Virtual PC (because your company does not market Mimic for Macintosh) a requestor dialog box popped up saying to insert the original CD-ROM and restart the application. I've done this half a dozen times with the same result - the Mimic program does not run at all. I realize that you have instituted a copy protection scheme on the CD to protect your intellectual property, but it is self-defeating in this situation. Your product retails for $195US, but it is an absolute waste of money for those who want to use your program under Virtual PC. I strongly suggest that, if you do not have a workaround, your web site should state your product will NOT work with Virtual PC on the Macintosh. Had anything been on your site to that effect, I would not have squandered my education budget on your useless product. Copies of this letter will be posted in the open forums for Poser at Renderosity.com and 3DCommune.com to inform other Macintosh Poser community members. I am looking forward to your soonest reply.

it s a well known Fact around here that MIMIC wont run under virtual PC
a search of the archive of these forums could have saved you alot aggrevation and money.

I can accept any companies decision to not write and compile a MAC version of there software titles

BUT these Sh*t heads at MIMIC LIED,LIED, and LIED!!
for a YEAR on their website by saying that they were releasing a mac version "soon"

and finally released a gutless press statement saying that: " there were no mac animators out there any way"

when poser 5 comes out for MAC OSX Some clever Unix Programmer will most likely write an auto lipsync plugin for it and probably distribute it free ;-o

Well at least we know now how well in touch with the market they are. And to think I was considering buying the thing myself. I had no idea that it wouldn't run under VPC either. hrumph

I have Mac OS 9.1 and use the Blue Label DOS emulator by Lismore Software Systems. Blue Label is available only online and costs far less than the Windows emulators you see in Mac software stores. Would Mimic run under the Blue Label emulator? If so, how much disk space and RAM would Mimic need?

BTW, the offices for LIPSinc are located a stone's throw from the Raleigh-Durham airport in North Carolina, so if you either live there or pass through on a regular basis, perhaps you could drop by and give them a piece of our collective minds. Look on the bright side, kid: I bought a shelf model ($20, no returns) of VirtualPC last week only to discover it was the 1.0 version and freezes every time it runs on my G4-enhanced 7500 running 9.x. At least you can run the rest of the PC utilities...

Here's the reply I just received from LIPSinc: "LIPSinc tries to achieve a high standard in both product quality and customer support, and we are very sorry you are having difficulties with our product. We have never made any claims that we support the Macintosh platform in any way. You will be happy to know that we are planning to release a Mac version of Mimic within the month. This should address all of your needs. To obtain a full refund from Journey Ed, simply return Mimic within 30 days of your purchase. If you prefer, LIPSinc would be happy to trade your Windows-only version of Mimic for the Mac version when it is released later this month.
