This is a little tutorial for Jenna. My "magic box" is simply a cube primitive with a "special" material. 1. Open the material editor and create a mixed material : MATERIAL 1 : Wood texture MATERIAL 2 : Metallic Texture Select an "object standard" mapping. 2. load the distribution map (image02.gif) : Open the function editor for the distribution of the materials (right mouse click > edit function). Select "mapped value" for the kind of layer and import the distribution map (the black and white image). Black areas will be material 1 and White areas material 2. Set the "mixing proportion" to 50 % and the "smooth blending strip" to 0%. Choose either simple blend, full blend or cover "mixing method". 3. load the bump map (image01.gif) : open the editor for material 2 (metallic texture). Go in the "bump" panel, open the function editor for the bump production, choose "mapped value" and import the bump map (grayscale image). Adjust the gain of the bump production, and use a filter if necessary (i.e. if the bumps are too sharp load a round clip). 4. The most important : the scale of the distribution function (XYZ), the bump production (XYZ) and the pictures used as function value (XY) must be exactly the same : 1.00. 5. Save the mixed material, close the material editor and adjust the scale of the mixed material to fit the cube. _____ The holes were done using booleans operations, the nails are pyramid primitives.
