Hi all, I am completely new in this forum. I have been using Imagine, Bryce, Organica, and recently I purchased lightwave, but I don't expect to be lighwave-fluent very soon, however, as soon as I make pictures I promiss to post it WIP. For Imagine, Bryce and Organica however, that's different, here I feel comfortable. I can produce acceptable quality pictures with those softwares. I finish today 14th in the latest 3dluvr contest, with 110 entries, just using Imagine and organica. Those of you who don't know Imagine, it's an "old" 3d software and you can see some render output in http://www.coolfun.com There is also an Imagine-only forum (the IML list) and in this forum, we had a discussion recently about the interest to integrate a genral 3d forum versus an Imagine-only forum. So here is my request to our administrator: Bryce you have it, LW you have it, and many others, what about Imagine ? Is that possible to have an imagine forum and an imagine gallery into the renderosity web site ? On my knowledge (but I can be wrong), it would be the first Imagine gallery in a general 3d forum. Richard

Hi Clint The maker of imagine is Impulse: http://www.coolfun.com/ unfortunatly I don't have a personnal web site. It's a shame right ? well I have started to make one in yahoo, and never finished... I am not a graphist actually, just hobbyist. I like 3d. Richard

Wow - Cool stuff... Thanks. Let see how the community feels ... Didnt you have a whole group of users that wanted to come here for the Imagine forum? Clint

Sure, the IML community is huge. I suggested that some of us should first move in renderosity. I think that if 10 of them migrate, that's gonna be good. You already have some imagine users I think. The goal is to drag enough of them to be able to decently request this "famous" Imagine gallery that we never had in a general 3d site. 2question: What happens with the Image that I have posted here, it's gonna be erased after a time ? This is also a reason why I moved to renderosity. In the IML, the Imagine Mailing List, it is not possible to post pictures. Very annoying. and what is the typical renderosity user profile: graphist or hobbyist like me ? stupid question probably: If you have Maya or 3dSmax($XXXX.XX), you must be a professional graphist. Hey, I remember Imagine, PC Format used to give it away as a freebie way back when. I havent seen it in ages, is it still DOS-based, or has it gone Win-compatible ?

Spinner, Imagine is windows based (don't ask me about Xp). At one point, Impulse talked to port it to the Mac in the future. So you know it ? The renderer is nice right ? I think, according to the galleries that I've seen, that in raytracing, it produces an output superior to Lightwave, when radiosity is not involved. Just talk about the raytracer engine here, not extra plugin. I guess that this kind of discussion, "which one is better" you already had it ten thousand times right?. I also have Lightwave, but I am just a newbye, I cannot really compare. I will probably switch very often to the lightwave forum, but as I said before, right now, I produce most of my pictures in Imagine or Imagine+Bryce. Is there somebody else using imagine here ?

I have used imagine for many years... and value its quality. It can produce excellent images, it would be nice to see it have its own forum. Jackoland Long time IML member.

Jackoland ! That name sounds familiar to me. What software do you have in addition to imagine ? Richard

I'd like to see this forum happen. Although I haven't used Imagine in some time I thought pretty highly of the app. I still have version 1 around here somewhere along with the I-Files C/D also Organica. When are the folks there at coolfun going to get off their duffs and release Version 3? Seems like everything has been kind of in limbo ever sence they moved to Las Vegas. Wished they'd update Organica as well. Have fun Dave

dickbill ( ) posted Sat, 09 March 2002 at 5:49 PM

version 3..... According to ultra secret information (posted in the IML) Impulse want to finish a Mac version before the final release of IFW3.0. Right now, version 2.1.4 has been released, with volumetrics integrated and a special meshing process called zmesh. Organica is nice too, but I don't know about a possible update, it has never been mentioned in the IML list as far as I remember. All of you who use Imagine, do you think it stands well among the other 3d softwares ? Richard

Hard to say from my end Richard. I never joined the CUP. I still only have version 1 which is quite a bit behind now. But that's to be expected with version 1 being as old as it is. Any hints being offered on the IML as to what Imagine3 will have? Every once in a while I go to the page where they were telling whats new for the folks that have joined CUP but it hasn't changed in a long long time? Have fun Dave

dickbill ( ) posted Sun, 10 March 2002 at 8:10 AM

Hi Dave What's Imagine Constant Upgrage Program (IFW2.1.4) already has that IFW doesn't have: 1)volumetrics fog with shade inside 2)volumetric lights 3)zmesh: take three comletely independant objects, a neck, a torso and a arm, design a part of the neck as fillet.neck, part of the torso as fillet.neck and another part (the lateral part of the torso) as fillet.arm, design a part of the arm (the upper part) as fillet.arm, all the corresponding fillet parts will then be filleted. then can be grouped hierarchically and animated and also, the textures applied to the objects mesh accordingly, they can even be boned I think, but I never tried it. 4) some cosmetic improvement in the graphical interface What 3.0 is supposed to have: 1) a single interface for the the stage and detail editor 2) a full 3d spline, that I am not so sure, nobody talk much about that 3) atmospherics, yes maybe in addition to volumetrics that's all I can see or remember right now, we havn't had any updated informations from Impulse from a while. Some people were upset about that, but what do you gonna do? All I know is that 3.0 is still a project at work. Richard

Hi all, Just a note, It seems that you have a significant amount of completely 3d unrelated posts in this forum. Some posts sounds more like a chat list with rude language than anything else, sometimes. So, I can ask this safely I guess: It seems like there is a general trends to design nude young female bodies and faces, or is it my imagination ? While attracted myself to the design of Beautiful-full lips-healthy-100%-symetrical face, WAP(I dare here),young (under 18?) female, maybe just because...I am a guy. Do you think that the 3D could be the future of porn ? After all the Under18 limit doesn't apply to virtual reality right?, and in addition it produces absolutely perfect bodies and faces, royalties and law free. I cannot imagine a statement in a web site like: "all the 3d virtual polygones and UVmaps in this web site are over 18 of age" it makes no sense right? Do you see what I mean ? BYW, How old is Victoria ? Richard

Imagine is a great, though largely unknown and continuously underpromoted software. It is now and has been for some years available for Windows and I think it will work under any version, though again, like someone said, I can't swear to what it would do under XP. It has suffered, IMHO, from the lack of market awaress (read "advertising" or "money" or "lack of same") as Impulse is a very small but dedicated outfit. They do make Organica and Illusion as well, both fine proggies that benefit from much greater general awareness. Having used it since the Turbo Silver/Amiga days - my 2000 sleeps still in my garage - I can say that it at one time suffered from VERY POOR and poorly written documentation. Being a proofreader by trade, this caused me no end of frustration, as the learning curve was rather steep - at least I thought - but that was corrected some years back with the release of the EXCELLENT CD-based I-Files, a great source of tutorials, models, etc. Everything you could ever want to know about Imagine, about $45 to $50 US. Also available from Impulse or coolfun.com. I think. Because the CUP - I'm a member (sigh) has been so slow to reach fulfillment, many folks have migrated to other softwares from frustration, need to keep up, p*nis envy, what have you. This is the way of the world. But there are gobs and gobs of (rabid) Imagine users. I've run across various users around here over the years. I'm sure there are still others and possibly more to come.

Hi, Imagine is quite a powerful program, with a very good support for procedural textures and polygonal modeling. I've been using it for some 5 years or so. I doubt I can't count myself as a newbie anymore, but taken the fact that it has been around from late eighties (in a form or another), and the amount of ppl who have used it from the very beginning, I'm still feeling a kind of a youngster around. I've used it both as hobbyist and freelance artist, everything from characer modeling and boning to magazine cover. I've been using Renderosity to show my work for some years, and think that the scoring and commenting system is quite a good thing. For me it'd be a great thing to see Imagine gain more publicity. Along with very small investment by Impulse to maketing, one of the main reasons for the lack of general knowledge of Imagine seems to be the fact, that Imagine users seem to "stay close together" (no offense meant, don't even know if that's the right term...). Of course it's a good thing mostly, but there are some problems. One doesn't see a lot of Imagine made work around, unless you happen to know where to find it, know IML, and know IML Ring. There are quite a good bunch of Imagine users, but not that many who send their work to public galleries. Most announce new work at IML, and that's it. Now it appears that there's luckily been some change. And I hope that more ppl see the idea of Renderosity and kind, as a good way to get some publicity for their work, and also for their software. It'd be nice to have a Imagine specified Gallery here, a forum wouldn't hurt either. And until that hopefully happens, one can always send their work to the other app gallery, following Kevin Manktelows idea of adding "Imagine:" to the picture title. dickbill ( ) posted Fri, 22 March 2002 at 8:33 AM

Hello Hannu The list of people insterested in an imagine gallery is growing fast !. Some of them are in the community improvement forum. I copy the list here: (from the community improvement forum): M3G Clae LarryF HP Slippery Kmanktelow Grumani Dickbill Dhurgan Critterbug (from the team contact forum): ClintH Spinner Jackoland DM LarryF Hannu This is great! I share your opinion about the Imagine community, it looked closed from the inside for a long time, probably because Imagine was self sufficient. But now It's changing. Most Imagine users have other 3d softwares, so there is no more reason for us to stay so Imagine-fanatic. Sometimes I think: what is the interest to have a specific Imagine gallery if you really want to be open minded to other progs ? An [otherapp] or [all gallery] is more than enough. With a specific [imagine gall] you may be tempted to check only the Imagine gallery and ignore the other galleries. You never see the Maya/ligthwave/zbrush etc arts in the [other app] because those softwares already have their own gallery, and those guys probably never or rarely go to the [other app] gallery and they will never see Imagine art. Maybe the best solution would be a global gallery for everybody, but with the name of the applications used in a searchable field. best regards Richard

I've used Imagine off and on since version 2.0 on the Amiga. The last Amiga version I have is 4.0 which I believe is the final version written for that now virtually defunct platform (sniff). I recently purchased Imagine 2.0 for Windows primarirly because of the low-cost, my experience with the interface, the library of objects I have from the Amiga days and the general high quality and flexibility of the software. I think that having an Imagine forum would be important because the more evidence there is of a user base for this great program, the more interest will be generated for it. The more interest that is generated for it, the more incentive Impulse will have for continuing to upgrade the product and the more competitive the product will become in the marketplace. It's been a long time since I've been rendering on a regular basis but as soon as I get my 3D legs back I will be posting some images here. I am a new member and so far I am very pleased with what I see here!
