heyas; you can get a bunch of nice modelling apps for free. anim8or is one a lot of people use. there's blender. amapi had a free version... so did strata, didn't they? i use rhino and lightwave now, but i wouldnt recommend those for a beginner. kinda pricey, there. i used to use ray dream. which is defunct. i guess i'm no help. :) but check out 3dlinks for links to any and all free/shareware/commercial apps.
