I personally think that all this bashing of Bebop(p) is getting pretty childish. Here is someone that donates their work to the community. Apparently pays for their own bandwidth in order to do so, and they're slammed for bootlegging a lightset, oh come on it's a lightset its like ripping off the layout of someones spreadsheet. At least if it was a character or even a morph or a texture I may be able to see all the fuss. It seems to me to be a real stretch to accuse someone of stealing something in plain view in the base program. No photographer would ever pitch a bitch about another photographer for copyright violation for figuring out how he arranged his lights. I am not saying that lighting is an insignificant part of the art, but it is not the art. By this logic we should all be getting cease and disists from Pixar because they did computer generated shadows before us. Can not lightsets be reverse engineered to indistiguishably indifferent with out reading a single line of the vendors files? I have not heard anyone say that Bebop is distributing a file attained from a commericial product, only that he recreated the look. Isn't that the same as the many Digital Marilyns out there that duplicate the look of copyrighted works? Should Sorayama shutdown Renderosity because of the Robot Girl for sale in the marketplace that is a replication of a look he created? Lets face it if we start getting into look violations, Renderosity is a dead issue, expect to defend yourselves againts Olivia, Boris Vallejo, Sorayama, Vargas, Petty, Erte, etc. When did the definition of an arists community come to mean a place for artists to sell their work to each other? I appreciate someone that still does quality work for the community, it is so disturbing to see people shutdown their sites, leaving a message like "I'm tired of giving away my stuff so others can profit from it". And here is a droning reoccuring thread about "how can I profit if others give away something like mine". Unless the commercial lightsets in question are ordered the same, or have some unique quality not inherent to lighting concepts inherent to the base Curious Labs (Metacreations, Fractal Design) product I don't see the point to the bashing. I have seen the public discussions between these two and frankly my opinion is ban both or neither, and I'm sorry to say that market place cliquery seems to have determined that the merchant stays and the outsider goes, just an observation from a reader.
