Subject: Curious Labs and DAZ

Just wondering... Since Zygote developed Dork and Posette for Poser 4, I wonder if DAZ is (or will be) working with CL for the Poser 5 characters? Another thought: If DAZ is working with CL, wouldn't we see a halt in new Poser 4 DAZ models as announcement time approaches?

You raise an interesting question
i think many users are concerned about Poser 5 's
backward compatibility with existing characters
and Cl has been somewhat ight lipped about it

I think I saw a post where DAZ indicated that previous characters would work fine in Poser 5, but that they would most likely not take advantage of the advanced features (like collision detection). But it does make you wonder if there will be a Poser 5 version of Mike, Vicky and Stephanie? Or all new models? smerc

It's a never-ending upgrade expense. ;) Eventually I'd think that most of our current stock would be "outdated". Though new features, especially advanced animation features would make it worth it to upgrade.

I've read a bunch of threads with DAZ assuring people that the Millenium people will not be included in Poser 5. 'course, if they need an update to work with some of the new features that'd be a line of revenue, wouldn't it? Hobbies can be expensive, can't they? :)

Actually, when I posted this I wasn't thinking about compatibility. And there's no doubts in my mind about upgrading. I was thinking about getting some type of time frame on an announcement. I figure if DAZ is developing for CL, they wouldn't want to keep releasing items that would soon be out of date. It would be wrong and it would bring a firestorm from their customers. Hence, one could conclude that, if there comes a long dry spell of new stuff from DAZ, P5 couldn't be far away. All that, of course, DAZ is working with Curious.

IF! I meant to say if DAZ is working with Curious.

Poser 5 should work fine with existing characters. As for any new characters/content, time will tell :-) Anthony Hernandez Curious Labs

As for any new characters/content, time will tell :-)>> I think as customers we shouldn't be prived to this kind of information. I would feel a lot safer spending my money on things that won't get obsolete overnight. I mean if Curious Labs is coming out with models that will support features that will render Mike, Victoria, Stephanie and the kids obsolete then what's the point in spending my money in DAZ products. I mean in my particular case: DAZ products are wonderful and I'm in love with them but I'm not incredibly wealthy, I have a family to support and this is only a hobby. I'm afraid I'll be stocking up with DAZ merchandise and in a couple of month's (probably more)when Curious Labs finally releases Poser 5 everything I've been buying from DAZ (already hundreds of dollars spent)will be rendered obsolete because they won't support the new features. I know I'm going to be spliting hairs just thinking about all that money I spent.

I can almost guarantee you that this won't happen Simon. I'd give you a 100% guarantee. But I don't work for CL. ;-) ScottA

Think about it. Whether DAZ and CL are "working together" or not, it's not in either company's best interest to make products obsolete or incompatible. They are not going to shoot each other in the feet.
