Subject: Newbie woes.....Help! how do I install Vicky???

The CD has no 'Read Me' and I checked Daz's FAQ's and the Poser manual....?? When I click on what I assume is the installer (the .sit file--this is a Mac) I get a weird message that "The disk with your preferred destination folder is currently locked." What does that mean? seems like it's referring to my P4 folder in Applications, which isn't locked(?) as far as I can tell...?

It might be trying to install to the CD? Don't know macs but on a pc an installer will sometimes try to create an install on the disk it's on. Try copying the file to your hard drive and run it from there. Hope this helps. Marque

Thank you! I'll try that next. How in the world did you all survive this Newbie stage? It sucks majorly! I have these beautiful visions that are trying to get out of my head and into that document window and having no luck......sigh.

It worked!! =:^) Solve this next (sub-) problem and you shall posess my undying gratitude--- There are two jpegs with Vicky's mapping templates (I think that's what they're called) left on my desktop and I don't know where to put 'em?? (After reading about the extreme persnicketiness of Poser's file structure, I'm afraid to touch 'em......)

The texture templates should have installed inside Poser. Open up Poser and check in the Pose area in the library. I think it's under Vicki. If you have just Poser 4.0 installed, use VickiP4 after you load Vicki into the scene. If you also have Poser Pro Pack (also called PPP) installed then use the other template. I'm not at my home computer right now, so hopefully this isn't too vague.

Um......duh......? (Hate being a Newbie!#?!) My brain is so boggled! It's Poser4, but I don't understand what you mean by 'use VickiP4?' Is the template somehow applied (?) to the figure in the working window?? Applied how? (And where on earth did she get those Groucho Marx eyebrows!!)

Patricia, if the mapping templates you're talking about are black and white mesh grids you can put them anywhere you want. Those aren't actually used in Poser, they're used in your favorite paint program to make your own maps if you so desire. Sort of like a blueprint. =) Kate

Okay, sorry if we're getting confusing. I forgot - you bought the Vicki CD. That means that you have Vicki 1.0. You won't have a VickiP4. That is for Vicki 2.0. My mistake -- I didn't have enough tea this morning! What are the files still sitting on your desktop? If we can ID them, we can tell you where they need to go. Was Poser open when you got the message "The disk with your preferred destination folder is currently locked." ? I'm not a Mac expert, but it may mean that it can't install the items on the CD while Poser is open. You may want to reboot your machine and try the installation again before opening up Poser. (Reboot fixes everything in Windows.) ;-) There's all sorts of tutorials on how to get Vicki's eyebrows to look human. Here's a quick and dirty on the settings: EyeBrows: Set to the same color as the rest of the SkinHead. Minimum Transparency to 0. Maximum Transparency to 0. No Transparency Map. UpperEyebrows: Set to the Object color you want. (For best results, set the ambient to Black.) Minimum Transparency to 0. Maximum Transparency to 100. Load a Vicki Eyebrow Transparency Map. In general, the skin textures work best on Vicki when the Object color itself is set to white for each part of her body. When you get more comfortable with Poser, you may want to give her a bit of color to try out skin tone variations. Hope this helps!
