Subject: Inserting files correctly.....Newbie confusion

Patricia ( ) posted Sat, 06 April 2002 at 6:44 PM ยท edited Fri, 29 November 2024 at 8:42 AM

Just checked all of my tutorial links, trying to find the exact sequence of steps to follow in opening up a purchased product (Sassy Hair, in this case) and getting all those files into the correct files in Poser.
The Read Me made it sound really simple if your'e using Winzip, but I'm working on a Mac..... Tried to infer from her directions how to unzip with Stuffit and successfully got them unzipped, but then what?
Stuffit didn't automatically install the files for me and I couldn't figure out how to drag+drop them either.....???
(This must be a magnificently stupid question, judging from the dearth of sufficiently 'basic' tutorials out there!)
Could someone knowledgeable pul-eeez hand-hold me through this?? I can only promise the reward of a place of prominence in my personal Poser pantheon!

Not a problem, you need Macinstaller from the Renderosity Freestuff. (Search for "Macinstaller" is the easiest way to find it). Writen by MartinC it comes with full instructions.

You need Maconverter, too! :) This file changes all those PC-only files into nice happy Mac files, and does the same thing as the pcf decoders in case you get some models which rely upon the presence of other models to work. (I believe that PhilC's "Harpy" uses the wings from the DAZ "Dragon", for example.) Maconverter is quite nifty. Both of these files are life-savers. Trust me, you will still be frustrated trying to get the images from your mind into the computer, but at least you won't be frothing over something as simple as opening a file in the wrong directory. Thank you so much! You not only fixed my problem, but you did so in a way that did not exacerbate my already wounded self-esteem.....(It hurts to feel as though you've dropped 40 vital I.Q. points everytime you click that Poser icon!)
Carrolly, are you aware that we know each other?? Outside of cyberspace, that is.....
Thank you both again.

Patricia, You don't by any chance have very blond hair and live in a house built in 1926 with a real honest-to-goodness potting shed? ... ruffle, ruffle, click, click... It IS you!! Oh, my, Goodness Gracious! How are you doing? Why aren't you coming to my Christmas parties? I've had a gift here for THREE years waiting. (Hmm... I'd better dust it.) How is Richard? (And, hey, I understand if you guys have been busy digging up bones or whatever, but friends do ask after you.) I've been having Artist Teas for my fellow computer artists for the last 2 years. The second Saturday of the month, usually my place. Sometimes we talk business and sometimes inspiration and somethimes we just vent. The next one should be next Saturday. IM me with a current email and I'll shoot you the particulars. You'll know most of the group... Beckett, Karen, Sheryl, Arlin.... If nothing else we should get together for a hug and gossip just to catch up on things... such as how you got into computer art! {hugs - and many of them} Carolly
