Although I certainly don't side with suicide bombers and find the Middle East events a tragic mess, I think the easy opinion is to just want to kill everyone. What Americans don't or won't admit is that the U.S. historically has a pretty abominable record with foreign affairs. The Palestinians are willing to kill themselves because in many cases they live lives that aren't worth living, suffering as they do at the hands of the Israeli armed forces. In fact, if you actually listened to reports about Bin Laden, you would discover that his main beef with the U.S. was the presence of U.S. troops in Saudi Arabia. The previous Bush administration used the Gulf War to install a standing army to basically guard the oil supply. Now, i don't know if you live in the same U.S. I live in, but it's not too hard to imagine that if another country placed a standing army on our shores, there would be plenty of insane "patriotic" Americans who would not stand for it and strike out violently in some form or other. In fact, Saddam Hussein has remained our favorite Middle East bogeyman so that we can maintain our military presence overseas. But not to worry about Iraq. The shells we dropped from planes and shot from tanks during the Gulf War were made from depleted uranium -- a cost-efficient alternative to regular metals -- a radioactive substance that is toxic for something like 2 billion years. you remember all those American G.I.s who got sick in the Gulf War? It wasn't chemical weapons -- it was Uncle Sam pinching pennies. The government doesn't deny using the substance -- they deny that it's dangerous. The Iraqi countryside is littered with shells, their cancer rate is up, as well as the number of birth defects in the region. So why don't they love us more? I guess it won't matter once they've all evolved into flipper creatures. But Uncle Sam has also figured out a way to make more money, by selling this ammunition to other countries -- so look for a plutonium-rich shell soon to be dropping in a neighborhood near you. But feel free to call for wiping people out. Genocide has always worked for the U.S. -- look at the Indians...if you can find any where you live. Mike
