We work first with solid .dwgs and then convert in AutoCAD to 3ds files, then scale and position. I would try to reduce the original model first. When we create the cr2 it is after it is already in Poser, so prior to bringing into poser we want it postioned correctly and sized right, that is what I would try. 3dsmax 4 was created by the same people who created AutoCad, that is why I think the same will work for you.
