I think in a way we already have this; folks post to the Gallery to a general audience, and to the Forum for more in depth discussion. We've set up two contest areas for people (who judge for themselves) who they want to compete against. As for the volume to sort through, I for one would not be skilled enough to say to anyone, "Sorry, your 'snapshot' does not live up to the standards of this Gallery, post over in the non-serious section." [Please, not trying to flame. You have made a considered, well structured argument, and I appreciate your point.] What I really like about Gallery posting is that the work is then indexed, and one can later look through all the work from various media, and see how the talent is progressing. I know the Forum threads are archived, but it would be nice to have a check-box to send an image to the Gallery. We are starting to pay the price of success. Both the Gallery and Forum are growing, with folks of various skill levels. I find some of the snapshots refreshing. The dissapointing thing is that it is getting too big to give all the newbees personal attention, and I am afraid they are losing interest and leaving. Some very good suggestions for Challenges have been coming into the Forum, 'cept that we've done them already. [I also have seen some very talented folks dissapearing, which dissapoints me (maygen, darkpen, cat?). I switch from media to media, and maybe that is what is happening.] Maybe by writing this out I am actually coming around to your point of view, Rork. Perhaps we need a separate something to support beginners?
