I have Rhino3d and Truespace4. I love Rhino and can't make head or tails of TrueSpace. Not that Truespace is bad. You can look at the work of guys like PhilC and see that Truespace is plenty powerful. Its just a matter of personal style. Thats why I'd try some demos 1st if I were you. I know Rhino3d has a demo and I think Truespace does too. I don't know about 3d studio Max or LightWave. Amapi3d has a free version. In fact check the modeling forum for a bunch of links to some free modelers.
