You're doing nothing wrong. When you make any changes or adjustments you will have to render the picture again. It's kind of like a photographer taking pictures of a set-up In order to see how the setup looks he has to develop the film and print the picture (render the Poser image). When he changes the set-up, the original picture does not change. He has to develop the film and print a new picture to see the results of his changes.
