I'll try to answer your question, Brent . For subdivision surfacing, polygons can have the number of sides you want . But when it comes to skinned models, it's probably better to work with quads if you don't want to see the triangulation changing when you move a limb . Not completely sure about it though, i'd need to test it . You can edit your model while subdivision surfacing in on, no problem . It makes modeling much faster :) Also, my last word about it : the algorithm is absolutely perfect for organic models ! I've been able to add wrinkles, spots or this kind of details very easily .
