Melanie, The book you are referring to is The People of Pern. The artwork is by Robin Wood (or Woods. sorry can't remember. She also has some stuff in the free section) and Ann states in it who acted as models for which image. Most of them are based on her family and friends. This is a side of Ann I never knew about. It is rather sad actually. Crystalleaf, as for dragons, which one do you do you consider to be real looking dragons? The ones on the Delray covers or the Bantam Press (or is that corgi?
