Hi Helen - I'm guessing that you are using planar mapping on the figure. Planar mapping by itself can causing "stretching" at the edges of the textures because of the way it's projected. The facets at the edge are facing away from the axis of projection and therefore only use a small amount of the map, which causes the apparent strectching. There are a few ways around this: first, you may want to keep the mapping that already exists on the model and only remap portions that you need. If you have a selection active when you choose a mapping mode, only the current election will be affected. You can also use the vertex select mode to grap the vertices and pull them away from the edge to reduce the stretching. Finally, you can also have a look at the Pro version with has a special tool for dealing with this.
