Subject: Problem with Poser...

first of all. I upgraded myself and my computer from Pentium I 32MB Ram to Pentium 4 256MB. but I still have the same problem as before. and reinstall does not work. see the image... I can never see the whole words and I have to guess what it is sometimes. any suggestions?

From what I have been reading in other threads Poser does this when the Pose Library gets very big. Same thing is happening to me. I have been shifting things around and moving things I don't use much. It helped but i keep buying so................. LOL

Yep... You have a limit of 255 folders in each library. I have developed a utility to create "banks" of library folders which can then be made visible/invisible to Poser thereby extending the existing library structure... Check out PBooost... it's in the Poser/Utilities section of the store here. Howard:)

It sure looks like the dreaded too-many-folders syndrome to me, too. First question is... Do you need that many installed items? Even with a library manager, do you really need to access all of them all of the time? If you do, get better organized (with or without a pre-set system); if you don't, just keep the ones you are currently working with and the basic files needed for Poser, and tuck the others elsewhere on your drive.

To quote Hamlet or somebody--"reckon not the need" I often don't know what the heck I'm gonna do until I open up Poser, so I don't know what folders are redundant or not-- except for the lo res p3 or whatever-- I almost always know I don't need those, but people say that Poser gets touchy without them. I don't need to use Dragons and Sci-Fi at the same time--usually, but not always. Certainly if I'm doing Androids, which I am right now, I don't need my beachbunines and motorcycles up. Probably. . . By the way, this chopping of menu items hasn't happened in XP, but in ME it was intolerable. And totally incomprehensible. Some MATs gave me one letter to guess. Is MAT D, something to do with David-- hair or character, or Diva, or Dominatrix, Daisy, or eye textures? It was Realeye textures. I also will click on Poser without realizing I've not culled yet, and that's a drag. Before I got PBoost, I took stuff out and stored it in a separate Runtime. And just the other day, I nearly dumped that Runtime. I wouldn't work without PBoost now, my brain has already been crammed fuller than Poser and is showing much less on its menus-- no hope for an upgrade there. PBoost doesn't lose my stuff. Emily

The Pose folder is probably the biggest problem... so why not do what I did while waiting for Poser 5: I moved all my MAT files to Camera folder instead. My Camera library is practically empty and I never use the cam presets anyway. I renamed all my MAT pose files to .cm2 's and now I don't have any problems with too big libraries :)

I moved them to Camera and Hand. I'm still getting full. And, I've forgotten where I've moved them! Poses are in Camera, Clothes are in Hand-- unless they're newly purchased in which case I haven't moved them yet. AYAYAYAYAY!! Not good. But if you are not as big a shopaholic as me, using Camera and Hand folders works. Emily

I had the same "chopped off names" with Windows XP. PBoost is an excellent remedy for this problem. There are some "considerations" if you have Windows XP... You'd want to download the PBoost Compatability Tester from FreeStuff to check on that issue. Or you can talk directly to Hogwarden. He's a most friendly chap. It was a pleasure to be on the beta test team of PBoost. I need to stay on the fringe of this one since I'm not sure how much time or energy I can spend on anything till I feel better.

Do you really NEED to use MATS????? Why not just load your textures, choosing the ones you want from wherever on your drive you choose to stash them? It doesn't take any longer to go into the Render Materials window than it does to go to the library menus on the right and scroll and scroll and scroll and scroll and scroll and scroll... and then realize that this week you've stashed clothes under hands, whereas on odd-numbered days they are under props, and during months ending with "y" they are under poses. I need to use some-- and others I forget I have. The biggest problem is finding what darn folder they're in. I've forgotten who made them all, and if I do remember, I don't remember the company name. It's very annoying to go through every darn folder trying to remember who made this or that. It is probably my biggest pet peeve with using the program -- after no sub-folders. I've already combined all the various costumes ones that I can into a folder apiece. This one Adventurers, this one pop stars, like that. Emily

Yes, MATS are a very good convenience. The first time I decided that was when I tried setting up the textures for the SAMS3D saloon. Man, that was some wonderful and complex model. I had such trouble figuring out the textures, and setting them up. Then I remembered there is a better way.. and a way to save others the hassle. So that was my first freebie: the MAT files for the saloon. It's a pain in the butt to setup textures for Mike, Vicky, et all. I much prefer MATS.

Well, I don't think it is convenient to put so-called poses containing texture information only under cameras or lights or hands. Textures belong with textures. Period. Characters can be saved with their relevant texture data. Scenes can be saved with all the textures in place. That is what a pz3 is for: combining all the relevant data in one tidy bundle. Reinventing the wheel sometimes makes for better wheels. However, putting both wheels and blades on the pair of skates isn't going to improve speed or mobility. Carolly
