Do you really NEED to use MATS????? Why not just load your textures, choosing the ones you want from wherever on your drive you choose to stash them? It doesn't take any longer to go into the Render Materials window than it does to go to the library menus on the right and scroll and scroll and scroll and scroll and scroll and scroll... and then realize that this week you've stashed clothes under hands, whereas on odd-numbered days they are under props, and during months ending with "y" they are under poses.
