Create some really nice animation demos of car accidents, shootings, assaults, etc. and create a demo CD. Then send it to all the lawyers (and district attorney offices) in your area with a letter of introduction explaining that you are a freelance 3D artist able to do 3D scene recreation on a contractual basis. If your work is good and they see a need for it... they'll contact you. They won't care too much about how much you charge, since they're just going to charge their client for it anyway. The only reason I haven't done this is... if I re-create a scene that gets a murderer off... can I live with myself? I guess I'll stick to 3D character portraits for Everquest and Dark Ages of Camelot fans... pay isn't the greatest... but I can go to sleep with a clean conscience.
