Yes there's definately smoothing going on! Gotta have that! I'm trying to get away from that blocky look, so I would have to fire me if I propogated the problem :) I'll be the first to admit I didn't invent these subdivision techniques - they were invented way back last millenium by a number of different college and university professor types. I did add one of my own invention, but figured I better include the official methods first :) So they've been around a long time but got lost in the shuffle against NURBS. Sort of a VHS vs BetaMax thing I think :) Once Pixar started using them though, they gained a lot of attention, and have been gaining popularity in the high-end rendering and visual effects producers. I'll attach a couple tiny pics here from one of the promo images I've been working on. They show the results from the program so you can see the smoothing. Also posted the preliminary image up to my web-site so you can have a peek at that if you like. http://www.meshtools3d.com/hr-pic1.jpg Just doing user docs and creating the web pages so should have some more detailed information and a demo up in the near future. As for the uv map, it stays exactly where it was. There's of course more polygons covering the same relative area, but any texture maps/images will work in exactly the same way.
