I would say if you are planning on keeping the tree with the bucket, I would either make a rock-covered path that goes by the benches, or a paved/cement walkway that goes by the benches. If you decide to get rid of the bucket, then you may not need a bucket, but keep in mind, that without a walkway of any sort, I get the feeling of surrealism, as you don't normally expect to see a bench without a path.
