The greatest classic rock bass player there ever was. He just died of a heart attack in Las Vegas. The Who were scheduled to perform in concert today. He could play the bass like a dragon. (That is only meant in charismatic theory) I am saddened by his death, and I will miss him. Though I never met him. No negative retorts, please. Alex

What an inspirational bass-player he was. Years ahead of his time technically, he was the benchmark which many bass players aspired to. I'm a musician myself, one who learned 'the bass' playing along to Who (and others!) tracks... finding new and wonderfully complex, moving and sometimes impossible bass lines in nearly every song all played by John Entwhistle with a relaxed ease and competance which still sounds fresh and impressive 20 years later. Swannie, Cozy was great, but John & Keith "if it doesn't move, hit it till it moves" were the ultimate backbone team to one of England's finest bands - just listen to the revamped "Live at Leeds" (which I do right now...) I'm sure it's the both of them united for tonight's gig... :-)

Bummer indeed. When I heard that on the radio, the first words that surfaced were "Momma's got a squeezbox she wears on her chest, when I come home I can't git no rest!" What a great time that was music wise!

Defamation? Hardly! Quite the contrary! I love The Who. They, along with the Stones, Jimi, Janice, The Chambers Brothers, Taj Mahal, and others way too numerous to list are part of my life's soundtrack, most especially the 60s! Good grief, he just died of a heart attack at age 57 and I'm two years older than that already. Life is short. Listen to good music. Probably won't help my cholesterol any, but I think I'll go knock back a good stiff cognac in his memory.

So many of the great musicians are gone now. Must be one incredible 'jam' going on upstairs. Too bad there are so few really good ones to replace them here. Oh well, at least the entertainment in the afterlife is guaranteed to be amazingly good!
