This particular scanner has ICE3 (by ASF) does it not? I've found that the ROC (color) part of that package can do strange things to images that have mostly OK color, even though it works miracles on faded/overexposed/underexposed/etc pictures. Try it with and without this feature and compare. (Are there adjustments for these features?) I interned briefly with ASF, and while i hate to go against their product, it is one thing that minolta would have no clue about, even though it's part of their scanner.
