darkphoenix, you make some valid points. Clearly, poser 4 has inherited a lot of baggage from its predecessors. And texture mapping has come a long way since Poser 1 and 2 which mostly relied on material colors alone. When UV texture mapping became more practical, it was merely added to the system which was not necessarily organized to take full or best advantage of it. But UV mapping is definitely an ADVANCEMENT in technology, and when properly used provides much more accurate placement of maps onto 3D objects than any other method. If precision placement is not an issue, then there are far more practical (not necessarily BETTER) methods of "texturing" an object for rendering. I also agree that a LOT of stuff in the market is not very will mapped, but please don't blame the UV system or technology for that, it is just the lack of talent on the part of modelers, who spend all their time making a mesh and then rush through the mapping process like it is a waste of their time. I think if they really understood the potential of the tool in their hands (and how it differs from other texturing methods) they would produce better results.
