Each one being unique, and having its own dark history to it. No, the puzzle boxes / music boxes aren't from a comic or from a movie, they were based off of the original box designs from the 1700's. There were other puzzle boxes designed and made in other country's later on, 1750 in spain, 1751 in newyork, and so on. The movie Hell raiser used the design of one of these puzzle boxes ( The Threnody Configuration "Mock Of The Infidel" ) and Expanded on its dark history like most writers. For example take Stephen King, he takes real places and transforms them into something intrest. Sorry i've only seen the first one, and i think bloodline, the space one... but the boxes came before the movie. You can get recreations of the real boxes for 100+, i haven't seen a duplicate of the ones used in the movies but there probably intresting too.
